This colourful, retro-izakaya specialises in delicious sake and classic Japanese dishes, all served with an intriguing twist.

Ichoume is an eatery and Izakaya (casual Japanese bar) serving classic Japanese food and a curated drinks list of wine, sake and ice cold beers. It’s colourful interior is speak-easy meets Japanese retro, with dark wood furnishings, plush red vinyl booths and a yellow mini ute parked right on the floor.

But most importantly, the food is incredible. Ichoume serves up elegant but creative takes on Japanese classics and flawless sushi that have earned it the title as one of Sydney’s best Japanese restaurants.

Introducing Sydney’s best Japanese restaurant

You might come to Ichoume for the funky, technicolour and dark-wood interior, but you’ll stay for the stunning food. Executive chef, Akiko Takenaga and head chef Tomohiko Kimura have created a menu that’s somehow both traditional and complex.

Highlights include wagyu beef sushi with foie gras and caviar, the Kaisen sashimi don with fresh tuna and the burrata cheese with wasabi soy and nori oil.

The menu is best served with something delicious off Ichoume’s excellent wine and sake menus - both of which were curated by master sommeliers.
