Amulets and Adornment
Aspiring makers will explore how jewellery and adornment have historically acted as symbols of protection, identity, storytelling, and personal meaning.
Beginning with a guided tour of the exhibition Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard, this is a chance to gather inspiration from the forms, textures, patterns, and symbolism found within the hoard.
Then develop your own wearable contemporary object under the guidance of experienced facilitators from metalwork and jewellery SquarePeg Studios.
Participants will learn jewellery-making techniques including:
- metal stamping
- roller printing
- texture making
- light forming
- finishing techniques
Students may create and take home:
- pendant
- cuff
- open band ring
using copper, brass, or aluminium (or upgrade to silver for an extra fee)
No previous experience is required.
This workshop is facilitated by SquarePeg Studios in collaboration with the Australian National Maritime Museum.
