A trip to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is one of the best things to do in Sydney for animal lovers and explorers. Get up close to fierce crocodiles, sleepy koalas and much more.

Looking for some exciting things to do in Sydney this weekend? Short of an outback expedition, the best way to see Australia’s best loved animals up close is a visit to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo. A day spent at this iconic attraction is one of the best places to visit in Sydney, offering incredible experiences with monstrous crocs, cuddly koalas and waddling wombats.

There are countless ways to experience Darling Harbour’s famous zoo. Buy a general admission ticket online, or grab a 2,3 or 4 attraction pass to also visit SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, Madame Tussauds Sydney or The Sydney Tower Eye.

Meet WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s Aussie big five

Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique and fascinating animals and they’re all here at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo. That includes the iconic Aussie big five: koalas, saltwater crocodiles, wombats, platypus and kangaroos.

There are three separate enclosures housing both male and female koalas named Iluka, Ilani and Kalina. Kangaroo walkabout is home to a mob of five cheeky Western Grey Kangaroos, named Dot, Dusk, Kirby, Nutmeg and Julie. There’s also a boisterous wombat named Ringo and a fearsome but sleepy saltwater croc called Rocky from Northern Australia to meet.

Explore 10 interactive zones

If you’re wondering what’s on in Sydney this weekend, chances are there’s something exciting happening in each of WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s 10 interactive zones featuring some of the world’s most endangered creatures:

  1. Tricky Tongues and Treetops: a split space with one side designed for Frankie the Numbat, and the other for Kofi the tree kangaroo.
  2. The Devil’s Den: thick grass and underground burrows hide Mirrin & Dharra, a couple of critically endangered Tasmanian Devils.
  3. Gumtree Valley: find a trio of koalas munching happily on eucalyptus leaves in this zone.
  4. Wallaby Cliffs: meet Ringo the wallaby and his friends the yellow-footed rock wallabies burrowing and causing mischief.
  5. Daintree Rainforest: a gigantic replication of Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest home to Princess the Southern Cassowary and a family of pademelons.
  6. Kangaroo Walkabout: meet WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s famous kangaroos as well as a cheeky quokka named Dave.
  7. Kakadu Gorge: if you’re brave enough descend into Kakadu Gorge to face Rocky, the saltwater crocodile. This species of croc is the largest reptile in the world.
  8. Platypus Pool: get up close to the Platypus, one of the world’s most bizarre animals, and learn about their weird and wonderful feeding and child birthing behaviours.
  9. Nightfall: keep your eyes peeled in this nocturnal habitat to discover creatures that venture out after dark like sugar gliders and bilbies.
  10. Koala rooftop: have you ever met a koala? Book a koala encounter at Koala rooftop and you can go inside the enclosure and get closer than ever to Australia’s most iconic animal.

Before your visit check WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s website, where you’ll find a programme that adds a family-friendly flavour to the Sydney events calendar. There are regular zoo keeper talks where you can learn about the animals, conservation and environmental challenges from the experts.
