Feed the magnificent koi as they rush through the waters of the Chinese Garden of Friendship to get their lunch.
Join the Chinese Garden of Friendship’s friendly Interpretation Officers every day at 11:30 am by the Lenient Jade Pavilion for a unique and interactive koi feeding experience. Participate in the fun by clapping loudly to attract the magnificent koi, then help feed these colourful “living jewels” that add life and beauty to the tranquil garden setting.
The garden’s koi are descended from the black carp species known as ‘magoi’ and are carefully cared for with a special diet of floating fish pellets similar to tropical fish food. In addition to their daily feeding, the koi naturally graze on algae growing on the garden’s rocks and structures. Thanks to the dedicated attention and nurturing environment, these koi can live up to 35 years, becoming a cherished part of the Chinese Garden of Friendship’s serene landscape.

Winter Fish Feeding Update
During the colder months, our 11:30 am fish feeding sessions are subject to cancellation. If the lake water temperature drops below 10°C, we'll pause feeding based on veterinary advice. As temperatures decrease, so does the fish’s metabolism. Below 10°C, they are unable to properly digest food, which can lead to serious health risks.
We appreciate your understanding as we prioritise the well-being of our fish. For the latest updates, please check with our Front of House team on the day of your visit.
