Strategy

Placemaking NSW creates, manages and cares for many of Sydney’s unique iconic harbourside locations, including Darling Harbour / Tumbalong, which is landmark location on the harbour.

Darling Harbour / Tumbalong is at once a local place and a global destination where people from many cultures and experiences come together. It’s a unique and inclusive place where people can enjoy being outside in a magnificent waterfront setting.

It plays host to major events, conferences, shows and festivals, as well as being a playground for locals to eat, play and socialise.

The Rocks and Darling Harbour Amenities Strategy

Public facilities are vital community assets contributing to the health and wellbeing of residents, workers, and visitors to any public space. As a government agency managing some of the State’s most precious and popular assets, Placemaking NSW has developed a Strategy to help ensure high quality and accessible public amenities remain a priority both now and in the future.

The Rocks and Darling Harbour Amenities Strategy was published in January 2024 following extensive research and analysis. It aims to guide better planning, prioritisation, delivery, and management of public amenities; and to support visitors of all levels of mobility to fully participate in our busy public programming and feel part of these precincts.

Darling Harbour Cycling Strategy

The Darling Harbour Cycling Strategy aims to identify and prioritise infrastructure works and initiatives for the planning, management, and promotion of safe cycling in Darling Harbour.
Darling Harbour is a cherished and celebrated shared public space. To ensure its ongoing safe use by a diverse mix of users, the Strategy outlines a series of recommendations informed by a robust analysis of current and future conditions, focusing on the three key drivers of place, movement, and connectivity.

This Strategy is intended for use by Placemaking NSW (PMNSW) and local stakeholders.
