The 19th century carousel at Darling Harbour is one of only a few traditional carousels in the world still operating with its original fittings.  It has survived two world wars and was at the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

With its whimsical designs and galloping horses and chariots, the carousel has given enjoyment to generations of Australians for more than 100 years.

Imported from England in 1894, it has covered many miles of country NSW – travelling the performance circuit with other caravans of entertainment.  The carousel operated at Circular Quay, The Rocks, Paramatta, Hyde Park, Manly and a host of urban festivals, events and regional county fairs before it made its current home at Darling Harbour.
